Latin Music's
Biggest Night to Air for 5th Consecutive Year on the Network
MIAMI (October 13, 2003) - In
celebration of the resounding success of the 4th Annual Latin GRAMMY®
Awards, the Latin Recording Academy® and the CBS Television Network
announced today that the 5th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards will be
broadcast domestically by CBS in fall 2004. The date, time and host
city of the Latin GRAMMY Awards will be announced at a later date.
"The Latin Recording Academy is
thrilled about the agreement with our excellent partners at CBS,"
said Latin Recording Academy President Gabriel Abaroa. "The
success achieved during the 4th Latin GRAMMY Awards is a powerful
foundation for our collective role in supporting Latin music and its
makers while bringing our telecast to a diverse audience."
"Broadcasting the Latin GRAMMY
Awards reaffirms CBS's commitment to diversity as well as the best in
entertainment programming," said CBS Chairman/CEO Leslie Moonves.
"This is one of the strongest growing demographics in America
right now, and we're thankful to be a part of it."
"The United States-Mexico Chamber
of Commerce is extremely pleased with the recent agreement reached
between our member the Latin Recording Academy and CBS Television to
broadcast the 5th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards in 2004," said
United States-Mexico Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Al Zapanta.
"Having the ability to portray Latin culture helps to promote the
better understanding of all our communities. This Chamber of Commerce
gives a lot of attention to cultural events, and the Latin GRAMMYs
happen to be the highest recognition that can be given to beautiful
Latin music."
"For years, CBS and the Recording
Academy have shared a vision of bringing diverse music and cultural
experiences to mainstream audiences," said Recording Academy®
President Neil Portnow. "That passion and foresight extends to
the Latin Recording Academy with CBS' continued commitment to
spotlight music and its makers from all across the globe."
"Over the past four years, the
Latin GRAMMYs have brought the sounds of Latin music into millions of
homes around the world," said crossover superstar Ricky Martin.
"I want to thank the Latin GRAMMYs and CBS Television for
showcasing the talented artists who are making Latin music today and
for giving them the worldwide exposure they deserve."
"We are proud that CBS has once
again recognized the diversity in this country," said producer
Emilio Estefan. "It has always been my personal goal, as well as
the Latin Recording Academy's, to expose our Latin culture and its
music to the masses."
"There's no better way to
celebrate culture than through music," said filmmaker Edward
James Olmos. "Fifteen cheers for the Latin GRAMMYs!"
"This is the most important thing
that can happen for the development of Latin music in the world,"
said Colombian singer/songwriter and nine-time Latin GRAMMY winner
Juanes.
CBS Television will broadcast the 5th
Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards domestically, and CBS Broadcast
International will distribute the show internationally, providing the
telecast to an estimated 120 countries. The 1st Annual Latin GRAMMY
Awards marked the first time a largely Spanish-language program was
aired in prime time in the U.S., and its successful reach, prestige
value and unique musical content was a powerful addition to the
network's offerings.
The Latin Recording Academy is a
membership-based organization comprised of approximately 4,000
recording artists, musicians, producers and other creative and
technical recording professionals who are dedicated to improving the
quality of life and cultural conditions for Latin music and its
makers. In addition to producing the Latin GRAMMY Awards to honor
excellence in the recording arts and sciences, the Latin Recording
Academy provides educational and human services programs to the Latin
music community.
