Initiative Providing Identity and Trust Services to 400 Enterprises,
Reducing Time and Cost in Cross-Border B2B Transactions
February 15, 2001 - PORTLAND, Ore. - GeoTrust, Inc. (www.geotrust.com),
building the standard for establishing online corporate identities,
will be among a select few service companies to help accelerate
Internet trade between businesses in the United States and Mexico.
GeoTrust has been chosen by the U.S. - Mexico Chamber of Commerce to
participate in the Wiring the Border project scheduled to begin in the
spring of 2001. GeoTrust will provide identity services to a virtual
network of 400 small-to-medium sized businesses in 10 states along the
U.S. - Mexico border, to help foster cross-border Internet trade and
increase revenues.
"We are looking at a breakthrough in how business is being done
in Mexico," said Al Zapanta, president of the U.S. - Mexico
Chamber of Commerce. "From San Diego and Tijuana to Brownsville
and Matamoros - this initiative will significantly cut down the time
it takes to complete a cross-border business transaction. I think we
will have an acceleration of trade not seen since NAFTA was signed.
"Wiring the Border, (www.usmcoc.org), spearheaded by the United
States-Mexico Chamber of Commerce aims to increase economic
development along the Southwestern United States border. The Chamber
is currently working with GeoTrust, IBM, Telmex, CompUSA/Prodigy,
Roadway, GE, andOnvia/Globe-1 on the Wiring the Border project.
"For the first time ever, companies unknown to one another will
be able to conduct significant on-line business," said GeoTrust

Chamber and the potential to be a primary technology service provider
fostering NAFTA trading policies, is high praise for GeoTrust."
GeoTrust continues to form partner alliances with industry leaders to
solve the problem of identity, authenticity and risk assessment in
business-to-business trading.
GeoTrust lets companies conduct an online performance history check of
potential trading partners, and gives instant access to transaction
insurance and online credit approval or financing.
By giving businesses on either side of the border access to GeoTrust's
registry of corporate profiles, it eliminates the need for expensive
onsite visits to verify the credibility and authenticity of Mexican
companies, Zapanta said.
GeoTrust's online identities for companies are called True
Credentials.TM A True Credential establishes the identity and
authenticity of a company providing a complete summary of a its
business practices, credit worthiness and past performance so
e-marketplace participants can establish the identity of buyers and
sellers around the globe. "GeoTrust allows the government and
financial sectors to perform due diligence online, ultimately saving
thousands of dollars during the transaction process," Zapanta
said.
GeoTrust and other selected companies will contribute an
"E-Commerce Package" to the U.S. -Mexico Wiring the Border
project consisting of personal computers, installation and use of a
dedicated phone line, Internet connectivity enabling software of
e-commerce packages to profile the companies and to obtain online
procurements and online transportation and logistics.
About GeoTrust, Inc.
GeoTrust, Inc. is a leader in the emerging field of online trust. By
delivering a comprehensive suite of services and leveraging strategic
industry partnerships, the company reduces the risk of B2B
transactions in digital marketplaces by providing buyers and sellers
with instant access to a participant's trust profile in an online
transaction. Built upon a comprehensive collection of
participant-disclosed, third-party and customer feedback data that
encompasses reputation, policies, practices and performance history,
these trust profiles ensure that every digital handshake can be made
with confidence.
About Wiring the Border

States-Mexico Chamber of Commerce to increase sustainable economic
development along the Southwestern United States Border. With in-kind
contributions from several of its key members, the Chamber is
implementing its Wiring the Border project. Wiring the Border will
create a virtual network of 400 small-to-medium sized enterprises
along the Southwestern border of the United States supported by
Electronic Commerce Research Centers.
The objective of this project is to identify businesses along the
Southwestern border which have the greatest likelihood of increasing
sales, revenues, profits and employment in the private sector, if
"web-enabled" by having the basic hardware, software,
telephony, connectivity, access to online procurements, access to
online credit, access to online capital, access to online business,
