| The Chamber will host
its Binational Board of Directors Meeting along with the 2nd
Binational Congressional Forum in the port of Veracruz, Ver. on
November 14-17, 2002. The Chamber's Board of Directors will
celebrate its Binational Meeting in one of the most important
Ports in Mexico for tourism and commerce. Between 1994 and June
2000, cumulative Foreign Direct Investment in Veracruz reached
US$104.7 million. By June 2000, 152 companies with foreign
investment were established in Veracruz. Veracruz is also the
number one producer of basic petrochemicals and is the second
supplier of Mexico's energy. |

2nd
U.S.-Mexico Congressional Forum |
|
|
On February 18-21, 2001 a
Chamber-led U.S. Congressional delegation met in Mexico City with
high-ranking executive and legislative branch representatives of the
Mexican government. There, they discussed the U.S.-Mexico trade
relationship under NAFTA as well as overall U.S. and Mexican
relations. The Chamber will use the Transporte-NAFTA Forum as an
occasion to plan for the 2nd Congressional Retreat scheduled for
February 14-16, 2003 in Merida, Yucatan. We plan to tackle chronically
troubling issues such as drug trafficking, immigration and port
security and safety. We will also look at private-sector initiatives
that deal with some outstanding bilateral issues. |
